Lesson goals

By the end you will…

  • Use CLAUSES OF CONTRAST (although, even though, though, in spite of, despite, however, whereas, while) with the correct structure after each linker.
  • Use CLAUSES OF PURPOSE (to / in order to / so as to / so that / in case / for) to explain WHY someone does something.
  • Talk about neighbourhoods and city exploration with B2 vocabulary (a hidden gem, a hole-in-the-wall, off the beaten track, a tourist trap, gentrified).
  • Hear and produce the stress SHIFT between two-syllable noun/verb pairs (REcord vs reCORD, PROgress vs proGRESS).
  • Describe a hidden gem in your own city or a place you've travelled to, using at least two contrast linkers and two purpose linkers.
  • Write a short 'insider's guide' recommendation post (100–120 words).
