Question formation & indirect questions
Direct questions invert; indirect ones don't.

Rules & form
- ›Direct: auxiliary + subject + verb → Where does he work?
- ›Indirect: Could you tell me where he works? — statement order, no do/does/did.
- ›Subject questions take no auxiliary: What happened?
- ›Prepositions usually move to the end: Who did you speak to?
- ›Negative questions express surprise: Didn't they warn you?
Examples
- “Do you know when the results are due?”
- “I was wondering whether you'd consider a discount.”
- “Who's responsible for onboarding?”
Watch out · Could you tell me where does he work ✗ — no inversion after the introduction.
