Case study: 'Reducing meeting overload in a fast-growing team'

Duration: 20 min

Warm-up

Warm-up · Prime the case (5 min, solo)

Two micro-drills from 6A (used to / be used to / get used to) and 6B (gerunds & infinitives + focus vocabulary). Do both before opening the scenario.

Drill 1 — Gerund or infinitive?

Choose the right form. Then say what the wrong form would accidentally mean.

  1. 'The team stopped ___ (to meet / meeting) on Wednesdays.'

  2. 'I need ___ (protecting / to protect) two hours a day for deep work.'

  3. 'I remember ___ (booking / to book) that recurring 4pm call — worst decision of the quarter.'

Drill 2 — Used to vs be used to vs get used to

Fix the wrong form and explain the difference in one line.

  1. 'I'm used to work in silence.'

  2. 'The team is getting used to have no-meeting Wednesdays.'

Bridge to the case → Two moves the case will demand: (a) every proposed ritual gets the right verb form — 'stop meeting' not 'stop to meet', 'get used to writing' not 'get used to write'; (b) name explicitly what the team USED TO do vs what they're GETTING USED TO. Open the scenario.
🎯 Final output

Final output — the Monday memo + the pilot metrics

Solo. (1) Record a 90-second voice note of your all-hands opening (the version you'd actually deliver, in your voice). (2) Draft the ONE-page Monday memo — the three policy changes, the one date they take effect, and the ONE-line meeting rule you'll pin to every invite. (3) Design the ONE metric you'll measure at the 4-week mark to know if this worked — with the number that would count as 'shipped it' and the number that would count as 'failed'.
