Case Study 10 · The family plan for next year

Duration: 30 min

Warm-up

Warm-up · Prime the case (5 min, solo)

Two quick drills that use Unit 10 language: (A) a 2nd-conditional sentence about a hypothetical bet, and (B) a one-line 'if we started again, we'd…' review.

Drill 1 — 2nd conditional to describe a bet

Rewrite each business idea as a 2nd conditional sentence with ONE number.

  1. Sell wine online direct to consumers instead of only to restaurants.

  2. Open a small tasting room at the winery on weekends.

  3. Rebrand the entry-level wine for a younger audience.

Drill 2 — 'if we started again, we would…' review lines

For each past problem, write ONE 'if we started again' sentence.

  1. Restaurant sales dropped 18% because their margins were squeezed.

  2. Two harvests in a row were smaller than forecast.

  3. The Founder's daughter wants to modernise; the founder wants to keep tradition.

Bridge to the case → The case will demand three moves: (a) draft a one-page plan for next year, (b) name the ONE bet you'd stress-test in Q1, and (c) hold a 5-minute quarterly review with the founder.
