Rules & form
- ›+ object + to-infinitive: allow, enable, encourage, persuade, require, warn.
- ›+ object + bare infinitive: make, let, have (causative); also help (both).
- ›+ object + -ing: catch, find, keep, imagine, prevent (from).
- ›Passive changes the pattern: We were made to sign / He was let go.
Examples
- “The tool enables teams to track spend in real time.”
- “They made us rewrite the whole section.”
- “I found her rereading the clause.”
Watch out · make someone to do ✗ in the active, but to reappears in the passive.
