- ›Defining: no commas, that possible, object pronoun omittable.
- ›Non-defining: commas, no that, pronoun obligatory.
- ›Formal fronted prepositions: the terms on which we agreed.
- ›Quantifier + of whom / of which: several of whom, most of which.
- ›Reduced relatives: the issues (that were) raised yesterday.
Examples
- “The clause to which you refer was removed.”
- “We interviewed twelve people, three of whom had run teams.”
- “Anything raised after the deadline will be logged separately.”
Watch out · which refers to things or whole ideas — never to people.
