Rita (Tourist):Excuse me, is there a market around here?

Samir (Local):Yes — the Saturday market. It's about 5 minutes on foot.

Rita:How do I get there?

Samir:Go straight for two streets, then turn right. It's on the left, next to the pharmacy — a big yellow sign.

Rita:Thank you so much!

Samir:Enjoy the market!

Shopping & directions

Two mini role-plays:

  1. Buying 3 things at a small food shop — ask prices, ask for quantities, pay.
  2. Asking for directions to your favourite café in your city — student B gives directions with 'straight', 'left', 'right', 'next to'.

  1. Compare shopping at a local market with shopping at a big supermarket. Which do you prefer in real life, and why? Use at least ONE comparative and ONE quantifier ('a lot of', 'hardly any', 'plenty of').
  2. Imagine a tourist stops you tomorrow and asks: 'Excuse me, what's ONE place I really shouldn't miss in your city?' Write your answer in 3 sentences: the place, how to get there from a well-known point, and ONE reason why it's worth the trip.
