Model Dialogue

Teacher: So, can anyone explain the past simple?

Student: Excuse me, what does "past simple" mean?

Teacher: Good question! It's the verb tense we use for actions that started and finished in the past. For example, "I walked to school yesterday."

Student: Ah, I see. Can you give another example?

Teacher: Of course. "She studied English for five years."

Register: formal vs informal

Typical Mistakes

I no understand. → I don't understand.
Repeat, please. → Can you repeat that, please?

Culture Note

Asking questions: It's always okay to ask questions in an English class. Teachers prefer you ask than be confused.
Group work: Many classes involve working with other students. Don't be shy to speak!
