Business B1 · Unit 9 · Case study

Case Study 9 · Two finalists, one role

Duration: 30 min

Warm-up

Warm-up · Prime the case (5 min, solo)

Two quick drills that use Unit 9 language: (A) a present-perfect-continuous line about a candidate, and (B) an interview follow-up question.

Drill 1 — present perfect continuous + duration

Rewrite each fact as a PPC sentence in the candidate's own voice.

  1. Candidate started in the role in 2022. Still there.

  2. Rebuilding pricing model for six months. Not finished.

  3. Interviewing at three companies in parallel over three weeks.

Drill 2 — write ONE sharp follow-up question

For each answer a candidate gave, write ONE probing follow-up.

  1. 'I've cut churn from 8% to 4% in 18 months.'

  2. 'I've been learning to give harder feedback earlier.'

  3. 'I'm looking for something more strategic.'

Bridge to the case → The case will demand three moves: (a) score two finalists on a scorecard, (b) write one honest rejection message, and (c) make one hiring recommendation you'd sign your name to.
